Wolverhampton Wanderers have ‘made their offer’ for Sporting CP attacking midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The 23-year-old is believed to be one of the hottest properties on the transfer market at this moment in time and could be set for a switch to Molineux for next season.
What is the latest news involving Nunes?
Back in April, The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that Wolves were lining up moves for Nunes and Sporting teammate Joao Palhinha as they planned for life without Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.
And Jacque Talbot of FootballTransfers has provided an update on the Midlands outfit’s pursuit of the Portuguese pair.
Talbot claims that Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Everton and Newcastle United have all joined Wolves in the hunt for Nunes’ signature.
Meanwhile, newly-promoted Fulham appear to have stolen the march on Bruno Lage’s charges when it comes to Palhinha.
Nunes, though, is said to have a €60 million (£51.5m) release clause inserted into his contract, although Sporting will accept offers of around €45m (£38.7m) for his services.
What has Jones said about Nunes?
Jones has disclosed that Wolves have already made their move for Nunes, but the decision over his future is up to the player, and he may be put off by Palhinha’s ongoing transfer saga.

He told GiveMeSport: “They’ve made their offer for Nunes, and the signs are good. Ultimately, this comes down to tying down the player and does he actually want this move? That’s the big question that seems to be hanging over this one.
“Is he convinced about their path given the fact he knows that other people are turning Wolves down right now? So, is it the right move for him, and why are other people not going for this?”
Would Nunes be a good signing?
Nunes has played a pivotal part in Sporting’s success over the last couple of campaigns, helping them claim a first Primeira Liga title in 19 years in 2020/21 alongside a League Cup crown.
The capital club repeated their Cup exploits last term, although were unable to prevent FC Porto from reclaiming their top-flight title.
Nevertheless, Nunes still shone in the middle of the park, racking up nine goal contributions across 50 appearances, and his underlying numbers were even more impressive.
As per FBref, the Portugal international has ranked in the 99th percentile for dribbles completed and assists as well as the 82nd for pressures amongst fellow central midfielders over the last year.
Nunes’ ability to drive through the middle of the pitch before carving open the opposition defence with a perfectly-weighted pass makes him an exciting prospect, and it would surely be considered a significant coup if Wolves can fend off the competition for him.
