Paulo Fonseca has decided against joining Marseille and will continue his managerial stint with Lille OSC, according to France Télévisions journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi. This news comes after previous reports suggested that Fonseca was in advanced negotiations to fill the vacant managerial role at Olympique de Marseille.
The departure of Igor Tudor at the end of the season had left Marseille in search of a new manager, despite Tudor having initially signed a two-year deal with the club. The Croatian manager, who has been linked with a potential return to Italy, cited personal and professional reasons for his sudden departure.
Reports regarding Fonseca’s potential move to Marseille began when Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport reported that the manager of Les Dogues was engaged in advanced negotiations with the club. However, the latest update indicates that Fonseca has decided to remain at Lille, turning down the opportunity to take over the reins at the Vélodrome. Fonseca was previously linked with a move to Premier League side West Ham United.
