Reis commits to remaining in Hamburg

On the deadline day for exercising his exit clause, Hamburger SV midfielder Ludovit Reis ended up expressing a commitment to his 2. Bundesliga side. 

Reis has expressed a firm commitment to playing for 2. Bundesliga club Hamburger SV next season. The 23-year-old joins teammate Robert Glatzel in brushing off interest from German football’s “Oberhaus” in order to remain with “die Rothosen”.

Reis, like Glatzel, was linked with Bundesliga sides after Hamburger SV missed out on promotion to the top flight via defeat in the promotion-relegation playoffs for the second consecutive season. The former Barcelona-academy man cited the hundreds of letters addressed to his instagram page from club supporters as one of the reasons he opted to remain in the Hanseatic city-state.

“I don’t need to stress how much I have grown fond of HSV, the team and the incredible fans over the past two years,” the player noted in a club statement, “I feel very comfortable at the club and in the city, despite the short time it has become like home. That’s why I decided to stay at HSV and I’m already looking forward to giving my all in the new season together with my colleagues.”

HSV boss Claus Costa called Reis a “very important part of our squad” and sporting director Jonas Boldt added that Reis’ decision helped the club “make a profound statement in our squad planning for next season.” Hamburg have already picked up an important addition for the coming campaign with the signing of Portuguese central defender Guilherme Ramos from relegated Arminia Bielefeld.

The club snapped up Ramos on a free yesterday.
