Kicker reports that Werder Bremen are interested in Hamburg striker Robert Glatzel as the futures of Niclas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch remain uncertain.
Hamburg would like to keep the 29-year-old, however, Glatzel has a release clause in his Hamburg contract worth €1.5m which expires on June 15th. Glatzel may favour a move to the Bundesliga as it is his last chance to earn a top move back to the division. The striker previously spent half a season on loan at Mainz 05.
Glatzel was key in Hamburg’s push for promotion, the 29-year-old played in every game for Hamburg as they finished third in the 2.Bundesliga before losing the relegation playoff against VfB Stuttgart. Glatzel also finished second in the goalscoring charts with 19 goals, six goals behind leader Tim Kleindienst of Heidenheim.
Bremen are clearly becoming more active when it comes to the potential departure of Füllkrug and Ducksch. They have already completed the signing of Fortuna Düsseldorf striker Dawid Kownacki. The arrival of Glatzel as well could suggest that Bremen are resigned to losing one of their two main strikers this summer.
