Robert Glatzel has extended his contract with Hamburg SV, the club has confirmed.
Glatzel was key in Hamburg’s push for promotion last season. The 29-year-old played in every game for HSV as they finished third in the 2. Bundesliga in dramatic fashion on the last day of the season. Hamburg went on to lose the relegation playoff against VfB Stuttgart. Glatzel also finished second in the goalscoring charts with 19 goals, six goals behind leader Tim Kleindienst of Heidenheim.
Due to his goalscoring record, the forward was mentioned with a possible move away from HSV and to the Bundesliga. One of the clubs interested was Northern rivals Werder Bremen.
Glatzel had a release clause in his Hamburg contract worth €1.5m which expires on June 15th. Despite this, the forward has put pen to paper and signed an extension until 2027.
Hamburg are facing their sixth straight season in the 2. Bundesliga. Keeping players such as Glatzel will go a long way to getting back into the top flight.
