Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara replaces injured Adrien Rabiot in France squad

Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara (23) has replaced the injured Adrien Rabiot (28) in the France squad, ahead of Les Bleus’ upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Kamara, who joined Aston Villa from Olympique de Marseille on a free transfer last summer, returned from injury towards the end of the club’s Premier League campaign, starting the last two games, which included a draw against Liverpool, and a final-day victory over Brighton. That win secured UEFA Europa Conference League football for Aston Villa next season.

Kamara’s season seemed to end there, however, Rabiot has suffered an injury, leading to Kamara’s international call-up. As announced by the France national team, the Juventus midfielder has suffered an injury to his right calf. Rabiot has therefore gone home, whilst Kamara will now join the squad in Clairefontaine.

Les Bleus face Gibraltar in Portugal on Friday evening before facing Greece at the Stade de France on Monday. France are currently top of their European qualifier group with two victories in two games.
