As reported by Bild, former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is close to joining Werder Bremen as a free transfer with his contract expiring this summer.
The 28-year-old is expected to undergo a medical next week with personal terms already agreed between Bremen and Keita. The Guinea international is supposedly ready to sign a three-year deal which will see him remain in North Germany until the summer of 2026.
Keita joined Liverpool at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign after agreeing a deal with his former employers RB Leipzig the season prior. Liverpool beat many European clubs to the signing after Keita’s phenomenal performances in his first season in Leipzig.
However, after a disappointing last season for the side from Saxony, injuries would plague the midfielder during his time for Liverpool. Despite this, Keita would still go on to win seven trophies with the English giants making 129 appearances in all competitions.
A move to bring Keita back to the Bundesliga would be a statement signing from Bremen. Die Werderaner will hope that their new acquisition will push them back up the Bundesliga table after a strong first season back in the Bundesliga where they were able to comfortably avoid relegation.
