As reported by Kicker, Suat Serdar and Krzysztof Piątek are set to leave Hertha Berlin after their relegation from the Bundesliga.
Hertha Berlin’s relegation from the Bundesliga was confirmed in heartbreaking fashion when Bochum’s Keven Schlotterbeck headed in a 94th-minute equaliser on matchday 33. However, while Hertha will drop down to the 2. Bundesliga, for Serdar, his former club Mainz are interested in keeping the 26-year-old in Germany’s top flight.
This would not be the first time that Serdar has been saved from relegation as it was Die Alte Dame that prized him away from Schalke in 2021 for €8m. With four goals and two assists in 32 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, Mainz believe that their former employer can add to their impressive midfield options while Turkish champions Galatasaray also remain interested.
In addition, Piątek is another player that could leave the German capital this summer. The Old Lady are hopeful of generating as much money as they can with their debts rising and their income decreasing.
Piątek is one player that can earn Hertha are high fee, as the Polish striker has a €10m buyout clause in his contract until June 15. Three clubs are reportedly interested in the 27-year-old with his most likely destination being a return to Italy with either Genoa or Salernitana, however, Girona in Spain also remain interested.
Hertha Berlin are in desperate need of income if they are to convince the DFL that they can pay off their rather large €40m debt in November. The Old Lady have until the end of June to receive their license for the 2. Bundesliga otherwise an uncertain future awaits.
