Coming off a comfortable 3-0 win in the first leg, VfB Stuttgart finished the job against Hamburger SV tonight, running out 3-1 winners at the Volkparkstadion to win the relegation/promotion play-off tie 6-1 on aggregate and secure another season in the Bundesliga.
Stuttgart actually trailed 1-0 at the break after Sonny Kittel scored early for the hosts and Serhou Guirassy had a goal ruled out for offside in the 17th minute.
HSV’s lead didn’t last long in the second half, however, as Enzo Millot equalized in the 48th minute, slotting the ball through the legs of HSV goalkeeper Heuer Fernandes.
16 minutes later, Millot capitalized on a poor clearance by Fernandes to put Stuttgart ahead, before Silas Katompa Mvumpa rounded off the party in stoppage time with a fine solo strike to make it 3-1.
