Real Madrid have announced this morning that club captain Karim Benzema will leave the club this summer as part of a mutual agreement, putting an end to a successful 14-year spell that has notably seen the French striker lift the Champions League five times.

The Ballon d’Or holder reportedly has a lucrative offer on the table from Saudi Arabia – specifically, to join this season’s title winners Al-Ittihad. A potential two-year deal would make the former Lyon man the latest major name to be enticed by the Gulf state’s major investment into their domestic football league.

The 35-year-old leaves Los Blancos having won a record 25 titles with the club – four league titles and three domestic cups adding to his continental success. He has scored a total of 353 goals in all competitions across his time in the Spanish capital, making him the club’s second-highest goalscorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo, while his 647 games place him in fifth in the all-time list.
