Perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are unwilling to let Lucas Hernandez leave the Allianz Arena without a fight amid growing interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
According to reputable German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Thomas Tuchel is applying daily pressure on the Bayern board to tie the Frenchman down to a new contract.
Hernandez came through the ranks at Atletico Madrid, where he spent 12 years, before sealing a club-record €80 million move to Bayern in 2019.
The 27-year-old’s career in Bavaria has been a resounding success, as he has won everything there is to win with the record-time Bundesliga champions during his four-year spell at the club.
But his contract expires in 2024, and it seems he holds some doubts about committing his long-term future to the Munich outfit following an injury-plagued season.
After an injury-hit start to the season, Hernandez recovered in time to make France’s World Cup squad, only to pick up a season-ending ligament injury in Qatar.
It’s still uncertain when he could return to action, but that has not deterred PSG from putting together a significant offer to tempt him to switch to Ligue 1.
Hernandez recently opened the door to a potential reunion with Atletico, yet with Les Parisiens adding him to their list of targets, a big-money move to the Parc des Princes seems more realistic.
Christophe Galtier’s side won a record-breaking 11th Ligue 1 title in 2022/23, but another underwhelming Champions League campaign will likely trigger another insane spending spree in the summer.
Former Real Madrid ace Sergio Ramos is on the verge of leaving Paris after two years as the parties have failed to extend his expiring contract.
Ramos’ imminent departure would leave Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe as the only senior centre-back options, which explains PSG’s readiness to break the bank to sign Hernandez.
