“When you see the guys lying on the ground, when you see them sitting in the dressing room and when you see this emptiness, it feels unfair,” said Edin Terzic after Borussia Dortmund squandered the title.

Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic says it feels “unfair” that his team missed out on the title.

The city of Dortmund was buzzing with excitement as the club looked set to secure their first Bundesliga title since 2012 with a win over Mainz on home soil.

But the final game of the season turned into a nightmare for Terzic’s side, who were held to a 2-2 draw and lost top spot to Bayern Munich.

“I hope you understand that I can’t give you the most analytical analysis,” Terzic told Sky Germany in an emotional interview after the final whistle that had him searching for the right words several times.

“We wanted it badly, the whole city, the whole stadium. We worked hard for this position, we had a great chance. It feels like shit.

“When you see the guys lying on the ground, when you see them sitting in the dressing room, when you see the emptiness, it feels unfair,” he ranted.

However, he readily admitted that Bayern deserved to win the title, as he opened his interview by saying:

“Congratulations to FC Bayern. Whoever is at the top after 34 games deserve it – even if it is extremely difficult today.

Analyzing his team’s disappointing 2-2 draw, Terzic explained:

“Things didn’t go as well as they did in the previous weeks, and then it got difficult. You see how close it is in the Bundesliga. If we hadn’t missed the penalty, if we had scored the 2-2 goal a bit earlier, we could have taken more from the game.”
