Xavi Hernandez has done an excellent job at Barcelona since replacing Ronald Koeman in the hot seat in November 2021.
The Spaniard recently led his side to the La Liga title for the first time since 2019. Their 4-2 win over Espanyol confirmed their status as the new Spanish champions despite four matches remaining in the season.
The Catalans also lifted the Supercopa de Espana earlier this campaign under the 43-year-old.
Although their performances were far from convincing in Europe, Xavi’s first full season as manager will be regarded by many as successful.
Barca will likely want to continue with him for many more years but at the same time they are also aware he cannot be their manager forever.
That’s why the Blaugrana have identified Girona boss Michel as a potential replacement for Xavi in the future, according to SPORT.
Michel, who previously managed Rayo Vallecano and Huesca, has been praised for his excellent work at the White and Reds.
The 47-year-old came into the job in July 2021 and led his side to La Liga promotion with victory over CD Tenerife in the playoff final.
Girona have also made a strong start in the Spanish top-flight under him this season.
With 13 wins and nine draws from 34 matches, the Catalonia based outfit are currently sitting seventh in the table.
They are likely to secure a spot in the Europa Conference League in 2023-24.
Xavi is not expected to leave Barcelona anytime soon but if such an unlikely scenario happens, Michel could be targeted by the Catalans.
