Arsenal are keen to secure the services of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez this summer, reports Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have turned their focus towards the Argentinian centre-back after securing the transfer of Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira in a deal worth €40 million.
Despite having a €30m offer knocked back by the Eredivisie giants, the Gunners remain unperturbed and will continue to push for the signing of Martinez.
The 24-year-old is among the most underrated youngsters in Europe, having helped Ajax with back-to-back Eredivisie titles.
Martinez, who was also part of the Copa America’s winning squad last year, is also considered a longer-term prospect for La Albiceleste.
Barcelona were thought to be leading the race for the Argentine centre-back, however their interest appears to have withered of late.
Furthermore, the Blaugrana are now focused on the deal to bring Sevilla defender Jules Kounde to Camp Nou.
Martinez has a contract running until 2025, but his future has been plunged into doubt following the departure of manager Erik ten Hag, who is currently in charge of Manchester United.
The Amsterdam giants are looking to keep hold of the Argentine, but the North Londoners are confident they can strike a deal to bring him to Premier League with an improved bid.
With the future of William Saliba, who will return to Emirates Stadium after a successful loan spell at Marseille, looking uncertain, Mikel Arteta has identified Martinez as a top target to strengthen the backline.
As it stands, the Gunners are prioritising the transfers of Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans.
