Christopher Trimmel says a move away from Union Berlin could be on the cards if his playing time doesn’t increase.

Union Berlin captain Christopher Trimmel is unhappy with his lack of first-team football in recent weeks.


The 36-year-old right-back has fallen behind January signing Josip Juranovic in the pecking order and has started just one of the club’s last six games, last week’s 4-2 win over Freiburg.

“The coach sensed that this was bothering me. I am the captain of this team. A captain should always be on the field. I have the ambition,” Trimmel told Bild.

He went on to admit that he could imagine leaving the club if his situation did not change for the better.

“If I’m not playing in the first half of next season, I’ll want to change, I know myself. Because that’s who I am and I see myself in football for another two or three years”.

The 36-year-old is not getting any younger, but he doesn’t feel his age is holding him back.

“I’m fit, I train with 18-, 19-year-olds. I don’t think I’m at a disadvantage at the moment. It’s all about performance”.
