Union Berlin confirmed on Wednesday that a new injury setback would prematurely conclude Hungarian international Andras Schäfer’s season.

Another injury setback ends Schäfer’s season

On the comeback trail after undergoing major surgery in November, Hungarian international Andras Schäfer of 1. FC Union Berlin has been relegated to the sidelines once again after the team medical staff have ruled it unsafe for him to play. The 22-times-capped Hungarian international had only just celebrated his return to the starting XI last weekend after rehabbing his metatarsal crack for five months.

Schäfer played a total of 63 minutes in Union’s 4-2 victory over Freiburg on Saturday. Schäfer already had to return to the sidelines for an extended spell this season after an aborted comeback attempt in January. Prior to the initial break, the 24-year-old featured in six of FCU trainer Urs Fischer’s starting league XIs this past autumn.
