Freiburg pull ahead in Gnonto race

By Peter Vice

Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio reports that SC Freiburg are back in the pole position in the race to acquire Italian phenom Wilfried Gnonto.

Despite recent efforts by TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to reunite 18-year-old attacker Wilfried Gnonto with former coach André Breitenreiter, Italian transfer guru Gianluca di Marzio claims that Germany’s Schwarzwaldverein are in fact closer to signing the FC Zürich forward. Di Marzio reported that SC Freiburg, through contact with player and club, leapt ahead in the race yesterday.

Freiburg’s qualification for the 2022/23 Europa League appears to be a decisive factor in influencing the decision of the young international. The teenager’s prospects to shine on a more noticeable platform. Similar motivations are reportedly guiding the thinking of F.C. St. Pauli’s Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, who is also expected to sign on in Breisgau.
