Carlos Tévez criticises PSG over treatment of Lionel Messi

Even after the end of the sanction, Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to suspend Lionel Messi over an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia continues to cause controversy – notably, for his former international teammate Carlos Tévez.

Messi had originally been suspended for two weeks, but following an apology video posted to his social media last week, was allowed back to full training and is now expected to start against Ajaccio tomorrow night.

Speaking on TyC Sports, the former Manchester United and Juventus striker was particularly critical of the way in which the league leaders handled the situation, and praised the World Cup winner for his public apology.

For Tévez, Messi showed “humility” in his reaction to the situation and explains that in his position he would not have proceeded in the same way:

“If you had told me, as a world champion, that I had to go apologise for travelling when I had the day off, I would go back to Rosario and stay there drinking maté. They should be apologising to me – but Messi puts the club above everything and you have to take your hat off to him.”

As it turns out, the squad not have the day off, given they had lost to Lorient the previous day. Bizarrely, the ex-forward also takes aim at PSG, claiming that he had played against them while at Manchester United and that they were a “midtable club” – despite never actually playing against the Ligue 1 side.
