Newcastle United looking to add five ‘top quality’ signings this summer

Newcastle United are in for a busy summer, as they seek to add five ‘top quality’ signings in the upcoming transfer window.

It has been a fine season for the Magpies. With four games remaining, they need just seven more points to secure themselves a place in next year’s Champions League – a competition they have not appeared in since 2003.

Additionally, they have boasted the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 29 goals. They also reached the Carabao Cup final back in February, their first cup final appearance for 24 years.

Eddie Howe’s men will be hoping to build on this going into next year. According to The Telegraph, they will aim to sign five ‘top quality’ players in the summer.

The report names a number of players who could be on their radar. Leicester City playmaker James Maddison is a known target, and the Tyneside outfit are expected to make another move at the end of the season.

Although, any potential bid could be impacted by the Foxes’ fate. They currently sit inside the relegation zone, and may let the midfielder go cheaper if they fail to avoid the drop.

Fellow England internationals Mason Mount and Declan Rice have reportedly also been discussed at St. James’ Park. However, the club worries that they would have to break their wage structure in order to prise them away from their current teams.

The report also mentions Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay. All three have struggled for regular game time this term, and may look elsewhere for minutes on the pitch.

Newcastle understand that recruiting from the Premier League can be expensive, and as a result may have to look abroad. France national team trio Khephren Thuram, Marcus Thuram, and Moussa Diaby have been touted as potential targets.

Brazilian stars Neymar and Raphinha have been linked with sensational moves to St. James’ Park. However, The Telegraph downplays these rumours, insisting that they are not on Howe’s wish list.
