Bild reports that current Bayern Munich academy manager Jochen Sauer is a candidate to fill the vacant Managing Director of Sport role at Hertha Berlin after the firing of Fredi Bobic in January.
Sauer’s contract at Bayern expires in the summer and he is reportedly unhappy with the appointment of Halil Altintop as Bayern’s sports director of the academy, meaning he has to share leadership and the former Turkish international is considered one of the go to people at the academy.
However, it is questionable whether Sauer will take charge as Hertha have recently began streamlining the structure of the club as sporting director Benjamin Weber has filled in for Bobic since his firing, and Weber has a contract at Hertha until 2025. It is possible that Sauer could take up a role with Hertha’s new minority investors 777 partners.
Sauer has previously worked for Hertha as he was their executive assistant between 2001 and 2009 and Hertha president Kay Bernstein has an idea of a ‘Berlin way’ that he likes to follow.
