Chelsea struggling to offload stars as Pochettino demands clear-out

Chelsea will find it difficult to sell many of their underperforming players this summer, according to The Telegraph.

The Blues have a bloated squad, and it has caused a drop in performance levels.

Incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino has asked the club to trim the squad down before they resume for pre-season. But it will be an arduous task.

The reports state that Chelsea must let players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go for free.

Aubameyang is on massive wages and has been poor all season since they shelled £12 million to take him from Barcelona.

And then he is 33 years old. The London club knows it won’t be easy selling such a player.

Also, the clubs interested in him, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, will not be willing to part with significant funds to sign him.

Another example of a player Chelsea will struggle to shift is £97 million striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian may get a chance with Chelsea next season, but if he wants to leave, Chelsea will struggle to recoup a significant sum for him.

Lukaku has not covered himself in glory during his loan spell at Inter Milan this season. The Nerazzurri don’t want to sign him permanently. They will let him return to London.

There are currently no takers on the market. The Blues will face this struggle with several players as they prepare to cut down the squad.

Chelsea’s new owners Todd Boehly/Clearlake Consortium, will not get the fees they wanted for several stars.

The values of the players are dropping every week. Chelsea are on a six-game winless run under interim coach Frank Lampard.

They look listless and clueless on the pitch. They look tactically unprepared, unfit, and lacking any motivation.

These are not encouraging signs for suitors, and they will likely try to negotiate low fees for these poor performers.

Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are in charge of trimming the squad as quickly as possible.

Furthermore, Chelsea have already spoken to intermediaries about trying to help them find buyers.
