Hertha remain hopeful as relegation threat grows

The threat of relegation looms large over Hertha BSC, but there is plenty of optimism within the squad that they can still avoid the drop.

After the weekend’s Bundesliga action, Hertha BSC remain bottom of the table, six points adrift of Bochum, who occupy the relegation playoff spot, with just four games remaining in the season.

Despite this, there was plenty of optimism in the Hertha camp following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

“We did very well against the ball,” Florian Niederlechner is quoted as saying by Kicker.

“That’s how you have to play in a relegation battle. If we had played like that in the last games against Schalke and Bremen, we would have more points.

“I’m confident we’ll get the points against Stuttgart next week if we perform like that again,” the Hertha striker said.

Maximilian Mittelstädt had a similar take on the game, noting that Hertha “defended very well for 70 minutes” before Bayern “took advantage of two small lapses in concentration”.

“There is no need to beat around the bush. We have to win all the games to stay in. It doesn’t matter if we’re ready or not: everyone has to give everything in the last four games,” Mittelstädt stressed.
