Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on the Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha ahead of the summer transfer window.

A report from Football Insider claims that the North London giants are now ready to make their move for the defensive midfielder at the end of the season.

They will face competition from a number of other Premier League clubs who are also keeping tabs on the Portuguese international. The report adds that Chelsea and Manchester United are keeping tabs on the player and Liverpool have scouted him earlier this season.

The 27-year-old has been an instant hit since his move to the Premier League and he could be tempted to try out a new challenge at this stage of his career. The opportunity to play for clubs like Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool will certainly be a more attractive option for the player, and he could have his head turned by the interest from the top clubs.

However, the player signed a five-year contract at Fulham and the cottagers are under no pressure to sell him after just one season at the club. The Premier League elite will have to come forward with a lucrative offer in order to tempt Fulham into selling the player.

The midfielder currently earns £50,000 a week at the London club and a move to Tottenham could see him earn more money. Spurs certainly have more resources and they could provide him with a bigger platform to showcase his qualities.

The North London giants need to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and Palhinha should prove to be an ideal fit for them. He will help protect the Tottenham defence and add some drive to the midfield as well. In addition to that, his signing will allow Tottenham to rotate their midfield options better.
