Atletico Madrid will not sell Joao Felix to La Liga rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona under any condition, according to Marca.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta had tried to recruit Joao Felix before, but Atletico Madrid did not allow it. Los Colchoneros CEO Gil Marin was against the deal.
Marin was the one who took the big bet to use €127 million to sign the Portuguese talent after only one season in the top flight.
Marin has regularly backed Felix to come good, but that has not happened yet.
Despite this, Marin will not let Felix join Barcelona. Even his good relations with Barca sporting director Mateu Alemany will not allow a deal to happen.
As for Real Madrid, they have no chance of signing the 23-year-old. Atletico don’t want to do any business with their Madrid rivals.
The attacker is currently on loan at Chelsea, and while they are interested in signing the player permanently, they have not made any concrete moves.
They have held initial talks but nothing more.
Also, Atletico Madrid set a €100 million price tag for the former Benfica striker.
Chelsea will find it difficult to spend such a sum without Champions League football and after their ridiculous outlay over the past year.
It is not like Felix’s performances have warranted such a sum. He has had some exciting moments in London, but questions remain about his production and defensive contribution.
In his 11 Premier League appearances, he has scored two goals and has no assists. He has missed three big chances.
Felix has only created one big chance, but he has received a red card and made an error leading to a goal. He has not contributed to any goal in the Champions League.
Furthermore, the Blues are battling to find a permanent head coach after a disastrous campaign. A new coach should be part of the decision-making process for transfers.
Chelsea already have too many players and must sell many of them before they can add any more. The Blues must sort these issues out first and any move for the attacker will face complications.
It is unclear where Felix will play next season, but it will not be Real Madrid or Barcelona.
