Speaking to BFMTV – transcribed by RMC Sport – in the wake of his press conference this afternoon following his contract renewal, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé confirmed he had spoken with Emmanuel Macron.
The forward, whose extension was announced before the game against Metz on Saturday, explained that he had calls with the French president multiple times and announced his decision to the head of state.
“Yes, we spoke. It was good advice. We often spoke. When you are a national figure, you have rights and duties. You have to assume what you are, as a play and a man.”
“I informed him of my choice. He said he was very happy and that it was great news for the country.”
“[On whether Macron influenced his decision] No because there wasn’t just one call! I have a lot of respect for him, but I didn’t make my decision because he told me to stay. But it was a factor among others.”
