Florian Maurice rejects chance to replace Paul Mitchell at Monaco

According to L’Équipe, Stade Rennais Technical Director Florian Maurice has rejected the chance to replace outgoing Sporting Director Paul Mitchell at AS Monaco.

Mitchell confirmed in March that he will leave Monaco in the near future. However, the Englishman, who arrived at the club in 2020, won’t do so until he has found his successor. As reported by RMC Sport, Cercle Brugge sporting director Carlos Aviña is the favourite to replace Mitchell at the Principality club, and sources contacted by Get French Football News can confirm that the 32-year-old Mexican is Mitchell’s preferred successor.

However, sources contacted by Get French Football News have revealed that Maurice was the #1 candidate within certain factions of the club, notably those linked strongly with Prince Albert II of Monaco. However, as reported by L’Équipe, Maurice has rejected Monaco’s advances and looks set to remain at Rennes in a role that he has now occupied for the past three years.

The rejection strenghtens the possibility of Aviña, who currently works at Monaco’s affiliate club Cercle Brugge, taking over from Mitchell.
