PSG head coach Christophe Galtier oversaw his side’s eighth loss since the turn of the year on Sunday night – and Les Parisiens haven’t had a start of the year this disappointing since 2001. They lost their second home Ligue 1 game on the bounce at the hands of Lyon on Sunday. With the club out of both the French Cup and the Champions League, a country-record 11th league title would be the bare minimum for PSG. However, their lead at the top has withered away in recent weeks. PSG only have a six-point lead over Lens and Marseille, with Les Parisiens facing the Artois side in two weeks’ time.
This downturn in form has further weakened Galtier’s position in the dugout. The former Lille manager, who won the Ligue 1 title over PSG in 2021 with Les Dogues, is tied to PSG over a contract due to expire in 2024. According to a report from RMC Sport, no decision has been taken yet from the PSG board over Galtier’s future.
When asked in the mixed zone about Galtier, Nuno Mendes (20) offered little to no words of support. “My job is to play“, assessed the Portuguese left-back. It is not us players who give the coach his salary. It is not up to us to decide.“
