Speaking in a press conference ahead of Olympique Lyonnais’ Ligue 1 clash against Paris Saint-Germain, Alexandre Lacazette (31) said that he was unsurprised by Arsenal’s success this season.
Lacazette left Arsenal for free this summer. Five years after leaving Lyon to join the Premier League side, he returned to his formative club, but during his time at the Emirates Stadium, the French international played 206 times, scoring 71 goals.
His return to the Groupama Stadium has been an undoubted success thus far. Only Kylian Mbappé (19) and Jonathan David (19) have scored more than Lacazette’s 17 Ligue 1 goals this season.
However, his departure hasn’t been to the detriment of Arsenal’s positive trajectory – quite the opposite. Last season, the Gunners missed out on Champions League football, but this season are top of the Premier League. Questioned about his former club’s season, Lacazette revealed that he wasn’t surprised by Arsenal’s success.
“Arsenal? I’m not surprised. I worked with the coach (Mikel Arteta). I know how he works, and I’m not surprised by the club’s success and I’m happy for my teammates there,” said Lacazette in a conference, transcribed by Foot Mercato.
