SC Freiburg plans to continue their cooperation with striker Lucas Höler for several more years to come. The Breisgau club announced a contract extension for the 28-year-old on Monday evening. As is common practice with the SCF, specifics of the contract were not divulged. It is known that legendary striker Nils Petersen currently sits on an expiring contract. Höler’s extension may be interpreted a sign that the club does not intend to tender an extension offer to the 34-year-old.
Höler has scored 27 goals and registered 19 assists in 174 competitive appearances since joining Freiburg from SV Sandhausen in 2018. In a statement accompanying the announcement, Höler thanked the club for the opportunity to develop and reflected upon his successful integration into the team year after year. SCF Manager Jochen Saier praised Höler’s “exemplary attitude” and labelled the striker “an important and reliable part of our team.”
