Barcelona have revived their interest in RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo ahead of a potential move in 2024, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan giants have also informed their former academy graduate not to renew his contract with Leipzig.
It’s no secret that Olmo’s dream destination is Camp Nou, while Barca have also tried to sign him in the previous windows, only to be thwarted by their financial difficulties.
Since joining Leipzig in 2020 from Dinamo Zagreb, the 24-year-old has made 112 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, bagging 20 goals and 24 assists.
Olmo’s progress has been hindered by various injuries over the past couple of seasons. He returned to action a few weeks ago after missing a month due to a torn muscle fibre.
His contract expires in 2024, but he is willing to put pen to paper on fresh terms only if Leipzig secure Champions League qualification – they are currently fifth in the table.
It has also been added that Barca met with Olmo’s entourage during the 2022 Qatar World Cup and informed them about their interest.
Olmo has been a prominent fixture for the Spanish national team over the last few years. He turned everyone’s attention with his prolific 2020 European Championship campaign, where La Roja reached the semi-finals.
He was also part of Spain’s 2022 World Cup squad that bit the dust in the round of 16 against Morocco.
The former La Masia graduate found the net in the recent win over Norway in the Euro qualifiers, which also marked the first game for manager Luis de la Fuente.
Barca’s financial crisis continues to hurt them as they may be restricted in the upcoming summer transfer window unless they make a massive clear-out.
Free transfers and cut-price deals are what the Catalans are looking for at the moment.
Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan has been heavily linked with a free transfer to Camp Nou, while Barca have reportedly sealed a move for Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez.
