A knife-wielding individual who threatened a young player from FC Nantes’ training center during halftime of the Gambardella Cup quarter-final against AS Monaco is set to face a legal complaint from the club. This is according to L’Équipe.
The match, which took place on Sunday at the Marcel-Saupin stadium, could have turned into a tragedy as a skirmish involving about twenty people erupted during halftime. A young player from the training center was reportedly hit and threatened with a knife for unknown reasons. He was taken to safety before the police arrived to calm the situation. The knife-wielding aggressor had already left the stadium before the authorities arrived.
Although the player initially chose not to press charges, the FC Nantes management announced that they will be filing a complaint against the attacker. “FC Nantes regrets such actions that have no place in a football stadium and extends full support to its young players,” the club said in a statement released on Tuesday.
