During the mixed zone interviews after PSG’s 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 (3-0 on aggregate), Mbappé was asked about his future. The Frenchman responded in familiar fashion, saying he is focused on the season with PSG and then seeing after what will follow. The following was transcribed by RMC Sport.
“Am I thinking about my future? No, no, I’m calm,” he replied in response to a question asked by journalists from Marca and AS, “The only thing that matters to me this season is winning Ligue 1. After that, we’ll see.”
Mbappé’s response to the Spanish journalist’s question has not gone unnoticed. Before extending his contract with PSG until 2025 last May, the former Monaco player had been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Just four days before the Bayern Munich game, Mbappé had already addressed his future, but the tone was much more relaxed. “Will this match have an impact on my future? I don’t think so,” he said. “If I linked my future to the Champions League, and I don’t mean to disrespect the club, I would be gone very far away! (laughs). I’m here, I’m very happy, and for now, I’m not thinking about anything other than making PSG successful.”
