Sky Germany reports that Austria and Germany have set out their plans for Bayern Munich’s 17-year-old attacker Paul Wanner. He has played for Germany at youth level but was born in Austria.
Austria manager Ralf Rangnick has shown Wanner a plan for his development which includes the European Championships next year in Germany and beyond. It is likely that he will receive a call-up for their qualifying games at the end of March.
Germany are also in contact with Wanner, but Hansi Flick does not want to call him up. It is likely that the 17-year-old will receive a call-up to the under-21s instead. The DFB see this as logical as Wanner has had very little game time with the senior Bayern team.
Wanner has mainly played for Bayern II as well as the under-19 Bundesliga south/southwest. While for the professional Bayern team, he has only made four appearances off of the bench with the most recent coming in Bayern’s 4-2 win against Wolfsburg.
