Schalke have today confirmed that authorities have not agreed to their security concept and as a result, alcohol will not be served in the VELTINS Arena or the area around the stadium on Saturday when they host Borussia Dortmund in the 100th Revierderby.
In a statement, S04 announced that they disagreed with the decision, saying that the ban is “neither proportionate nor expedient with regard to the arguments of the security authorities.” And their reaction was made clear with the responsible authorities.
All eyes will be on the Revierderby, one of Europe’s greatest rivalries. Borussia Dortmund’s run of 10 consecutive wins in 2023 came to an end on Tuesday night with a defeat and elimination from the Champions League against Chelsea. They’ll be eager to bounce back as they sit level points with Bayern Munich.
Schalke meanwhile are in good form themselves. Four successive 0-0 draws preceded wins against Stuttgart and Bochum, which moved them off the bottom of the Bundesliga.
