Newcastle United are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount in the summer, reports the Daily Mail.
The England international is out of contract in 2024 and talks over an extension have stalled.
The Blues will attempt to convince him to sign a new deal so as not to lose him for free.
They would be forced to sell the 24-year-old if both parties cannot reach an agreement.
Liverpool are also monitoring the situation, and Mount will not be short of options if he becomes available.
Apart from Newcastle, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus also want the Blues star.
He will be available on a cut-price deal in the summer due to his contract situation.
Newcastle could be playing in the Champions League next season after a solid campaign.
Qualifying for Europe’s elite competition will make the Magpies further attractive to top players.
The St James’ Park club are also interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen attacker Florian Wirtz and Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is also looking for a cover and competition for Fabian Schar at right centre-back.
Central midfield is a department where they could do with more quality options.
Mount brings plenty of Premier League experience to the table.
Newcastle have plans to challenge regularly for the title and silverware.
They lost the final of the Carabao Cup to Manchester United last month.
The Magpies can go one better next term by making more solid additions to their squad, and Mount would be perfect.
