Hans-Joachim Watzke issues warning to Borussia Dortmund players

Despite 10 Bundesliga wins on the bounce, Borussia Dortmund managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke has issued a cautious warning to the club’s players, according to Sport1

Last Friday, BVB managed to keep the pressure on Bayern Munich by beating RB Leipzig 2-1 in front of a packed Signal Iduna Park. This Tuesday, the tough games keep coming as Dortmund travel to England to play Chelsea in their second-leg Champions League tie.

Watzke explained: “No one should believe that tenth place in the Premier League reflects Chelsea’s sporting quality.” He continued: “the knot could burst at any time, after all, they spent more than 600 million euros on transfers in eight months.”

The 63-year-old is more than aware of the difficult task ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge. However, he also has confidence in head coach Edin Terzić and his players.

“The fact that we have the feeling of being able to progress before the second leg in London says everything to me,” said Watzke.

The message is clear. Be proud of what the team is achieving right now, but plenty of football is still to be played, and it could all come to an end before anything is achieved. After Dortmund’s match in England on Tuesday, they face a derby clash against Schalke 04 who are unbeaten in five matches and finally off the bottom of the Bundesliga table for the first time since matchday 11.
