Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Thomas Müller will start for Bayern Munich against Union Berlin on Sunday. Both teams alongside Borussia Dortmund sit on level points after 21 games.
Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s top of the table clash against Union, Nagelsmann said: “Thomas is a very experienced player and he was told why the decision was made.” After Dayot Upamecano’s sending off against Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend, Müller is the player that Nagelsmann sacrificed after just 16 minutes.
“I spoke to him for a very long time, of course he wasn’t happy,” added Nagelsmann. “He’s very professional. He will start on Sunday.”
Müller has been substituted prematurely in Bayern Munich’s last two Bundesliga games and started on the bench against PSG in the Champions League. Nagelsmann’s guarantee for Müller came after he confirmed that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has a neck problem whilst Sadio Mané won’t start, but is an option should Bayern need one.
Mané returned to training last week but hasn’t played a competitive fixture since November 8. The Senegalese forward is expected to return to full fitness ahead of Bayern’s Champions League second-leg against PSG on March 8.
