Christian Eriksen has decided to take on a new challenge by leaving Brentford when his contract expires later this month, per Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.
The midfielder suffered a heart attack in Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 game against Finland which put his career at risk of coming to an abrupt end.
However, he managed to make a full recovery and despite being released by Inter Milan late last year, Eriksen has gotten his career back on track at Brentford after signing a six-month deal back in January.
Eriksen contributed one goal and four assists in 11 outings and helped the Bees steer clear of relegation danger in their first-top flight season in 74 years.
Unsurprisingly, Brentford manager Thomas Frank wants Eriksen to stay although the Dane now looks set to depart west London with a host of teams reportedly seeking to acquire his services.
Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Liverpool have all been linked with a potential move, while Antonio Conte is believed to be keen on a reunion with Eriksen having coached him at Inter Milan.
A move to North London looks to be the most probable outcome as Erkisen revealed his desire to return to the Champions League while speaking about his future last month.
“I do not think that there are some football players who can just pick and choose between clubs because there are many criteria that come into play,” the 30-year-old told Swedish outlet Viaplay.
“I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision.
“I would love to play Champions League football again – I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”
With the summer window now officially open, Eriksen’s future is set to become clearer in the coming weeks when a host of Premier League transfers are expected to take shape.
