Manchester United have contacted the representatives of Napoli centre-back Kim Min-Jae, reports Calcio Mercato.
The Red Devils are keen on the South Korean international ahead of the summer transfer window.
Min-Jae’s €50 million release clause has made him an attractive option for Man United, and Napoli are aware.
The Serie A leaders are now looking to increase it to €70m. However, Napoli will have to hand Min-Jae a new improved deal for a deal to be struck.
The 26-year-old has impressed for the Italians this season, playing a key role in their rise to the top of the table.
Napoli are 15 points clear at the top of the Italian top flight after 23 games. Min-Jae has missed only a league game and weighed in with two goals and one assist.
He joined the Naples club from Fenerbahce last summer but could soon be on his way to the Premier League.
Man United manager Erik ten Hag wants to bolster his defence ahead of a title challenge next term.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof could leave the club in the summer after falling behind in the pecking order.
Min-Jae would be an upgrade on the duo and Ten Hag would be spoilt for choices with the Asian in his side.
Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are Man United’s first choice centre-back partnership.
Left-back Luke Shaw has also been deployed in central defence at times.
Adding Min-Jae to their ranks would help boost their chances of becoming strong title challengers.
He is comfortable in possession and also tackles and intercepts well.
The Red Devils will not be the only club trying to sign him, and they need to move smartly to have a chance.
