Sport Bild are reporting that VfB Stuttgart are watching Paderborn’s Ron Schallenberg as they look to strengthen their defensive midfield options.
Schallenberg has attracted interest from a host of Bundesliga clubs and Stuttgart are the newest one to show interest in the 24-year-old. The defensive midfielder’s contract at Paderborn expires in 2024, but if Paderborn miss out on promotion this season, then Schallenberg will likely depart.
Augsburg had also shown interest in Schallenberg, but he is too important for their promotion push and Paderborn did not want to let the 24-year-old leave.
Stuttgart had been pursuing Josuha Guilavogui in January as Bruno Labbadia looked for a defensive midfielder but a move failed to materialise.
Schallenberg has played every game for Paderborn this season, scoring twice and assisting once, as they push to gain promotion back to the Bundesliga. Paderborn are currently fourth in the 2. Bundesliga, two points behind Heidenheim.
