The DFB today confirm that Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano has been handed a one-game ban following his red card against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. This means that the Frenchman will miss the crucial top-of-the-table clash against Union Berlin, who are level points with the Rekordmeister.
Upamecano was sent off for a foul on Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Alassane Pléa after eight minutes. The Frenchman brought his compatriot down after crossing Pléa’s path – Upamecano was the last defender.
Upamecano has been key for Bayern Munich this season, playing in all but one Bundesliga game.
As a result of Upamecano’s dismissal, Julian Nagelsmann is also being investigated by the DFB for comments made towards referee Tobias Welz following Bayern Munich’s 3-2 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Goals from Lars Stindl, Jonas Hofmann and Marcus Thuram ended Bayern Munich’s unbeaten run and with Union Berlin drawing 0-0 against Schalke and Borussia Dortmund beating Hertha Berlin, the trio are now on level points.
