Legendary Valencia manager Marcelino, who won the Copa del Rey with the club in 2019, and reached the final with Athletic Club two years later, is reportedly interested in managing Atlético Madrid.
As per Marca, Marcelino switched agents recently, in a move aimed at improving his chances of succeeding Diego Simeone. The Spaniard originally wanted to take the place of Luis Enrique following his departure from the Spain national team after the World Cup, but he wasn’t chosen for the task.
Originally represented by Eugenio Botas, Marcelino has strategically switched agents to Manolo García Quilón. Once well-trusted by Atlético president Gil Marin, Quilón’s close relationship with Los Rojiblancos has grown a little more distant since he played a part in Theo Hernández’s departure to Real Madrid.
If Marcelino truly wants the position of head coach at Atleti, he may need some patience as Simeone is still under contract until 2024. Furthermore, Estadio Deportivo report that he may face competition from the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and even Luis Enrique.
