Manchester United are running the rule over New England Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, reports MLS insider Tom Bogert.
The Red Devils have been heavily scouting the Serbia international. However, there has been no official contact between both clubs.
Man United goalie David de Gea is out of contract in 2024. The Spaniard has been at Old Trafford since 2011 and made 521 appearances.
De Gea kept his 108th clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday. The 32-year-old equalled Peter Schmeichel’s clean sheet record for the club in the process.
Man United are reportedly looking to hand the former Atletico Madrid star a new deal on reduced wages.
It remains to be seen if they will succeed but they are already preparing for life without De Gea.
They have been linked with Leeds United stopper Illan Meslier but appear to be scouring beyond Europe too.
Petrovic has established himself as one of the best goalies in the Major League Soccer. The 23-year-old has only played twice for his country but has done enough at club level to attract Man United.
Petrovic played 21 games for the Revs in 2022 and helped them finish 10th in the Eastern Conference.
He made the official team of the week four times and was a finalist for the MLS goalkeeper of the year award last season.
The Serbian joined New England Revolution from Cukaricki last year. Petrovic played 78 league games for the Serbian SuperLiga and has European experience having featured in four UEFA Europa Conference League matches.
He could be back in Europe if he keeps impressing, but whether that would be at Old Trafford remains unknown.
