Luka Modric’s future at Real Madrid depends on Jude Bellingham

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is facing an uncertain future, having entered the final few months of his current deal.

The 37-year-old is ageing like a fine wine, as can be seen with his consistent performances with Los Blancos and most recently with the Croatian national team at FIFA World Cup 2022.

Nonetheless, Los Blancos are planning for a long-term future without the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner and are ready to pass the baton to Jude Bellingham.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been identified as the top midfield target for the summer.

The Spanish capital club will face competition from Premier League giants Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea but are determined to win the race for his signature.

An offer worth around €130 million is said to be being prepared by the La Liga giants, and they believe it would be sufficient to persuade the English midfielder.

Furthermore, Bellingham’s arrival could open the door for Modric’s departure in the summer, reports Marca.

Modric’s fellow midfield partner Toni Kroos is also in the final year of his contract at the Spanish capital club, with no significant steps taken towards his renewal.

However, the chances of the German midfielder continuing at Madrid are higher than Modric – which could be due to the former’s relatively low age.

Carlo Ancelotti was recently quizzed about Kroos’ contract situation, to which the Italian gaffer responded that he is uncertain about what the future holds for the German.

Both Kroos and Modric have slipped behind in the pecking order in recent games due to the emergence of Dani Ceballos, who has been making every opportunity count.

Los Merengues are also keen to extend his deal, and the Spaniard is also on the same page.
