Bayern Munich put one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 1-0 away win over Paris Saint-Germain at Park des Princes tonight in the first leg of the round of 16 tie between the two sides.
Kingsley Coman scored the winner against his former club, exactly like he did in Bayern’s 1-0 victory over PSG in the final back in 2020.
After a quiet first half, the Frenchman opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, firing a first-time finish underneath Gianluigi Donnarumma, who could have done better in the situation.
Bayern immediately pushed for the second goal, but efforts from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Pavard by Donnarumma.
PSG, meanwhile, started to look threatening at the other end of the pitch after Kylian Mbappé was introduced to make his return from injury.
The French superstar actually had the ball in the net with less than 10 minutes left of ordinary time, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review showed that Nuno Mendes was offside in the build-up.
Lionel Messi and Vitinha also came close to evening the score, but despite being reduced to 10 men when Benjamin Pavard was shown his second yellow card in injury time, Bayern managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle to put themselves in a good position for the return leg in Munich on March 8.
