Hoffenheim are interested in signing American defender Chris Richards from Hoffenheim, according to Kicker.
The 22-year-old has three years remaining on his Bayern Munich contract but another loan move is a possibility as Hoffenheim look to strengthen their defence. If Richards doesn’t have much prospect of playing time in the future at the Allianz Arena, a permanent commitment is also conceivable.
Richards played 1301 minutes across 20 Bundesliga games last season and in what is a World Cup year, the American needs regular playing time.
However, Sebastian Hoeneß is no longer head coach at Hoffenheim after he parted ways with the Bundesliga side after missing out on European football. Richards also played under Hoeneß in the Bayern youth teams.
Hoffenheim are also searching for defensive reinforcements with Florian Grillitsch leaving the club after an agreement for a contract extension couldn’t be reached. American defender John Brooks is also a defensive candidate.
