Getafe midfielder Jakub Jankto took the brave decision to declare his homosexuality on social media on Monday. The player, who is currently on loan at Sparta Prague from the LaLiga side Getafe, published the news on his Instagram account.
His message was as follows: “Like everyone; I have my strengths. I have my weaknesses. I have a family. I have my friends. I have a job that I do the best I can, for years, with seriousness, professionalism and passion. Like everyone, I also want to live my life in freedom. Without fear. Without prejudice. Without violence. But with love. I am homosexual and I no longer want to hide.”

Jankto now becomes the third openly gay professional footballer currently playing, after Josh Cavallo in Australia and Jake Daniels of Blackpool made public their sexuality last year.
This is big step forward for Spanish football and should hopefully have a positive impact on the fight for increased LGBT rights within the sports community.
