After Gennaro Gattuso’s sacking, interim manager Voro hasn’t managed to improve Valencia’s drastic situation, as exemplified by last weekend’s game against Girona, where only goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili saved the team from further embarrassment than their 1-0 defeat.
Marca report that Valencia’s plan was to wait out the rest of the season and then bring in Nuno Espírito Santo, who has experience managing the club after his stint from 2014 to 2015. However, he is currently under contract at Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia and his buyout clause may prove too expensive.
Rubén Baraja is one of the alternatives currently considered. A free agent – Baraja previously managed Real Zaragoza – but he has no experience in the top flight.
Vicente Moreno is also an option, and has worked in La Liga. He is currently managing Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia. Other managers without experience in Spain are also being considered, such as Abel Ferreira of the Brazilian side Palmeiras.
