Eintracht Frankfurt have made contact and begun discussions with 1.FC Köln’s Ellyes Shkiri whose contract expires in the summer, reports SportBild.
Skhiri was already an option at Frankfurt, but it is reported that Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche have already had concrete discussions with the Tunisian and his advisors. Borussia Dortmund and Olympique Lyon have also shown interested in the 27-year-old.
The midfielder joined Köln in 2019 from Montpellier in France and has made 119 appearances for the team since. This season Skhiri has three goals and one assist. The 27-year-old was called up to the Tunisia squad for the World Cup and played in all three of their group games.
An additional defensive minded midfielder would benefit Frankfurt as they currently only have two players in Sebastian Rode and Djibril Sow that are defensive minded. With the long term future of Rode in-doubt and Sow attracting interest from other clubs, extra defensive minded options would be beneficial.
