Schalke 04 have today confirmed the contract extension of 19-year-old Sidi Sané until 2024.
“Sidi is a great boy who, despite a few injuries in the past, has developed well,” said Mathias Schober, director of Knappenschmiede. “We’re happy that he was able to play many games in the U19s under Norbert Elgert last season.
“After a good season in the A youth, Sidi gets a chances to train with the pros in preparation. We’re happy when young players from the Knappenschmiede are given an opportunity to present themselves to the first team. Sidi will remain with the Knappenschmiede and will gain match practice in the U23s.”
Sané made his U23 debut last season in the Regionalliga West after playing 18 games in the A-Junior Bundesliga, scoring six goals. The 19-year-old also trained on occasion with the first team last season.
The German winger joined Schalke’s Knappenschmiede from Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 and is the brother of Leroy Sané.
